Message "From Your Hands, a Green Urban Legacy for the Next Century" - this is the concept on which the Roppongi Hills Gardening Club is founded. Together with our own hands, we seek to make our city and community a greener and gentler place and promote the role of gardens as a tool for communication.
And what will be our "green urban legacy for the next century"? I believe that it will be the creation of space that we can proudly put on display for the world. It will be the places where we can take comfort in an environment we ourselves created with the precious treasury of plants native to Japan, and experience what makes Japan a uniquely beautiful place to live.
While taking both scenic and intellectual pleasure in their growth, we cultivate plants that possess distinctive value, always with a clear grasp of what is necessary for them to respond to the diversity of changes that Nature brings.
Returning the subject of the special relationship between gardening and people, I look forward to sharing with all members days of enjoyment with our plants and the intellectual curiosity sparked by them.
Overlapping the vista of our gateless garden are scenes from the perspective of those of us who are a part of its creation - a gardenscape made with our own hands and a panorama of plants with value beyond estimation. Together we will soon embark on a journey that will leave a verdant legacy in the heart of the city to be enjoyed by residents a hundred years in the future.

See, touch and experience the enchanting beauty
of plants native to Japan. |
In this season when plants are at the height of their beauty is when proper care is most necessary. |
Some plants like the wet weather and others don't. Learning how to prepare them according to the characteristics of each is vital. |
Light and shade are just two of the environmental factors you must keep a close watch on for the healthy growth of your plants. |
Among the many beautiful flowering plants of autumn, the ones deemed especially exquisite will be the subject of observation. |
Since ancient times, the colors of autumn in Japan have held a special significance and attraction. Together members will rediscover an understanding of this almost forgotten aesthetic quality. |
Looking ahead, we begin preparing soil and planting bulbed plants. |
While taking measures against winter's chill,
members sense the beauty of the soil that gives
birth to the plants of Japan. |
Chance to observe not only the flowers but also
the plants that defy the coldest winters and grow with vigor. |
Sense the incredible energy of the flowering plants as they begin to sprout and bud. For a brief time in this season, the plants reveal another exciting facet of their cycle of growth and change. |
